Clear, honest guidance on paying for care

How Fees Work

Every fee is agreed with you, in writing

Fees vary based on room type and a care needs assessment. All fees are agreed in writing before admission and reviewed regularly. We don't publish a headline rate, because it would tell you very little: what you pay depends on the room you choose and the level of care needed. Instead we'll talk it through properly, then confirm the figure and exactly what it covers in writing before any commitment is made. No surprises.

Funding Routes

Three ways care can be funded

However your loved one's care is funded, our admissions team will guide you through it, clearly and without jargon.

Self-Funded Care

If you have assets over the current threshold of £23,250 in England, you will usually be expected to fund your own care. We provide clear, detailed fee information and are happy to work alongside an independent financial adviser to help you plan ahead.

Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA)

Local Authority Funding

Hampshire County Council may contribute to care costs following a means-tested financial assessment. The council sets a standard rate. Where our fee is higher than that rate a third-party top-up is likely, usually paid by a relative. A top-up is never compulsory, and the council must offer at least one option with no top-up at all. Our admissions team can guide you through the whole process.

Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

If your loved one has a primary health need, the NHS may fully fund their care through Continuing Healthcare. Eligibility is assessed by an NHS panel. We'll point you to the right people and support the assessment with the records and observations the panel needs. Beacon runs a free national advice line on 0345 548 0300.

Funding questions

Straight answers to the money questions families worry about most.

How are fees agreed before someone moves in?

We carry out a care needs assessment and agree a weekly fee in writing before anyone moves in. There are no surprises: you will know exactly what the fee is, and exactly what it includes, before any commitment is made.

Can fees change once a resident has moved in?

If a resident's care needs change significantly, we will discuss any change to the fee with the family before it takes effect. We will confirm in writing how and when fees are reviewed before anyone moves in.

What happens if someone runs out of funds?

If a self-funding resident's assets fall towards the threshold, we will help the family arrange a Local Authority financial assessment in good time. Our aim is always continuity of care, and we will work with you to find the right way forward.

Is there a registration or joining fee?

We will set out any deposit or advance payment terms in writing before you commit to anything. Ask us and we will talk you through them in full.

Are there any additional charges on top of the weekly fee?

Most things are included. A small number of personal extras, such as hairdressing, chiropody or a daily newspaper, are charged separately, and we will always make these clear up front.
