On the shoulder of Portsdown Hill

Belmont Castle sits on Portsdown Hill Road in Bedhampton, on the western edge of Havant, where the eastern end of Portsdown Hill turns south and the ground begins to fall away towards Langstone Harbour. It is a quiet residential road with a pavement and street lighting, and it happens to be signposted off the A3(M) itself, which ends about four hundred yards from our gate. You are a couple of minutes from the motorway and the A27, and about five minutes from the middle of Havant.

  • By car, from the A3(M): leave at Junction 5, the last junction, and follow the signs for Bedhampton and the B2177. That is Portsdown Hill Road, and we are on it. About three minutes from the roundabout.
  • By car, from the A27: about a mile of local roads from the Bedhampton Roundabout.
  • From Havant town centre: about two miles.
  • Nearby: Cosham 2.6 miles, Waterlooville 3.3 miles, Emsworth 4.2 miles, Fareham ten miles, Chichester and Petersfield both about twelve and a half.
  • By train: Bedhampton station is just under a mile away, a walk of about eighteen minutes, with step-free access to both platforms and hourly trains to London Waterloo via Guildford and to Portsmouth Harbour. Havant, two miles away, is a junction station with direct trains to London Waterloo, London Victoria via Gatwick, Brighton, Portsmouth and Southampton.
  • By bus: the nearest stops are on Havant Road, about a ten-minute walk. Stagecoach service 23 runs into Havant and on to Southsea roughly every ten minutes, and service 19 serves Leigh Park and Portsmouth. The walk back up is a hill, so do ring us if you would rather we met you at the stop.
  • Parking: free, on site, for residents and visitors.
  • Nearest hospital: Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, two and a half to three miles, and the nearest A&E.
