What residential care means
Residential care at Belmont Castle is for older people who can no longer manage easily at home, but do not need nursing care. It is long-term care in the truest sense: a home, not a placement. Residents bring their own furniture, keep their own routines, and are supported by a team who know them by name.
Residential care is long-term care for older people who can no longer manage easily at home, but who do not need round-the-clock nursing. It covers the everyday things that become harder with age: meals, washing and dressing, medication, mobility and company.
At Belmont Castle that support comes wrapped in ordinary life. Residents keep their routines and their independence, decorate their own rooms, and spend their days however they choose, with a warm team always close by.
A Typical Day

Morning
A gentle start, breakfast when it suits, the papers, and a little exercise or one-to-one time for those who want it.
Afternoon
Activities, crafts, visiting entertainers or an accompanied trip into Havant, followed by a chef-prepared lunch and afternoon tea.
Evening
A relaxed evening meal, television or a quiet chat in the lounge, and a calm, unhurried wind-down to bed.

Questions about residential care
What is the difference between residential and nursing care?
Residential care supports people with daily living, personal care, meals and activities. Nursing care additionally provides care from a registered nurse for complex medical needs. Belmont Castle is registered as a care home without nursing, so we provide residential, dementia and respite care rather than nursing care. If your relative needs nursing, we will say so honestly and help you look in the right direction.
Will my relative have their own GP?
The home works with Homewell Practice in Havant, and with the Community District Nursing team at Havant ICT. We coordinate visits, medication and any specialist appointments on your relative's behalf, and keep families informed throughout.
What languages does the team speak?
Between them our team speaks English, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam, and we have colleagues from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh who speak their own first languages too. If English is not someone's first language, do tell us: there is a good chance somebody here shares it.
What is the key worker system?
Each resident has a named key worker who takes a special interest in their wellbeing, gets to know their history and preferences, and is a consistent, familiar point of contact for the family.
