Our approach to dementia care
Living with dementia does not mean living without joy, dignity or familiarity. Our dementia care is built around the person, not the diagnosis: a calm environment, gentle routine, and a team trained to meet each resident where they are, on every kind of day.
Dementia changes how a person experiences the world, but it does not change their need for warmth, dignity and familiarity. Our dementia care is built around the person in front of us, on the day we are with them, rather than around the diagnosis.
That means a calm environment, a gentle and predictable rhythm to the day, and a team trained to meet each resident with patience, never to rush or correct. Small things, a familiar object, a favourite song, a known face, do enormous good.
The Environment
A home designed to feel safe and familiar
Easy to navigate
Clear wayfinding, familiar surroundings and good natural light help residents feel oriented and calm throughout the day.
Garden access
About three and a half acres of grounds, with a landscaped garden, a koi pond and a small bird aviary, so residents can get outside and enjoy the fresh air.
Dementia-trained team
Every member of staff is trained in dementia care, so whoever is on shift understands how to support and reassure.

Your weekly fee covers the care, the comforts and the day-to-day life of the home. A small number of personal extras are charged separately, and we will always tell you what they are up front.

Questions about dementia care
Is the home designed for people living with dementia?
Belmont Castle is a period building rather than a purpose-built dementia unit, and for many people that is part of the appeal: it feels like a house, not a facility. We support people living with dementia with familiar surroundings, a calm and unhurried atmosphere, and access to the garden. Every person is different, so the honest answer is to come and see it. We will walk you through the building and talk frankly about whether it suits your relative.
Are all your staff dementia trained?
Every member of our care team receives specialist dementia training, so that whoever is on shift understands how to support each resident with patience, warmth and genuine skill.
How do you support families of people with dementia?
Dementia affects the whole family. We keep you closely involved, explain what we are seeing, and offer guidance and reassurance. You are never on the outside looking in.
What if my relative becomes distressed or unsettled?
Our team is trained to recognise and gently respond to distress, looking for the cause rather than simply managing the behaviour. A calm environment and familiar routine prevent a great deal of anxiety before it begins.
